IF YOUR GUMS BLEED EVERY TIME YOU BRUSH OR HAVE YOUR TEETH CLEANED, YOU MAY HAVE A BIGGER PROBLEM

CATEGORY: 1: Simple Malnutrition

RECOMMENDED SUPPLEMENT: Rutin

The problem is that if you have blood leakage in your mouth, it means you also have blood leakage elsewhere in your body that you can’t see, such as, in your brain where it can manifest as a brain aneurysm or a “ruptured” blood vessel stroke.

Expanding or collapsed blood vessels are also a sign of weak walls, and show up in your cheeks as rosacea, which is an enlargement or ballooning of blood vessels there, and of course in your legs as varicose veins.

With strong blood vessel walls none of these disorders, including bleeding gums, is possible. If you have sufficient Rutin in your system at all times, your hygienist can poke away in your mouth without a drop of blood showing up. Know that you are in big trouble if your gums bleed with just normal tooth brushing.

It’s a simple concept: Anything that is closed off must have walls.

Consider then the nature of walls, to keep things separated. In your body your blood vessel walls keep your blood from seeping into other tissue and causing damage.

Your arterial system of arteries and capillaries—that take blood away from the heart and distribute it throughout your body, and veins—that return blood to the heart for replenishment, also has walls. It is a closed system.

You will never attain 100 percent non leakage in your arterial system; it’s just something that happens. But with strong arterial walls you can have the barest minimum of leakage.

Rutin is part of the C Complex, which includes Vitamin C, Citrus Bioflavonoid, Rutin, Hesperiden Complex, and sometimes Acerola, Alfalfa, and Barley Grass.

Vitamin C is water soluble, and therefore cannot be stored in your body. Meaning, it washes out of your system everyday and must be replenished everyday. Since you will be taking larger doses of Rutin, which is part of C Complex, you will also need to take a maintenance dose of Vitamin C Complex.

YOU CAN HAVE HEALTHY TOENAILS WITHOUT USING MEDICATIONS THAT HAVE UNWANTED SIDE EFFECTS

CATEGORY: 1: Simple Malnutrition

RECOMMENDED SUPPLEMENT: Acidophilus

Summertime is here, and feet are back on display, but they are not usually the prettiest parts of the human form.

beach ocean and two cocktails

One thing that keeps feet out of the “pretty” category is fungal infections of the toenail and the nail bed. These infections result in misshapen nails that can be up to ten times as thick, are hard and brittle, darkly discolored, smelly, and painful. In really bad cases the nail may separate from the bed.

________________________________________________________________________________________

Note: I hate to be the one to tell you this, but did you ever wonder why fungal nails thicken and become hard, brittle, and smelly? That is caused by the poop from the invading fungal microbes, and then their tiny dead bodies as they die off. The organic debris builds up over time and raises the nail away from the bed. That in turn causes pain as the nail is pushed into the surrounding skin.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

These symptoms can lead to painful ingrown toenails and people averting their eyes, necessitating a trip to the podiatrist. These microbes can show up in fingernails too, but this blog focuses on toenail fungus. The treatment works as well on fingernails; just use disposable gloves instead of socks to cover the nails.

There is a natural way to control toenail fungus that requires only minimal upkeep and has no side effects. This treatment works faster if you attack the problem both internally and topically with probiotic Acidophilus. You will also need vitamin E oil, or a substitute like baby oil, along with a good metal nail file, and a pair of old socks. Try to get E oil, because it seems to help with softness and pliability over other oils.

ACIDOPHILUS CAPSULES

Acidophilus is the best probiotic for controlling fungal infections. There’s a little bit of work to the process, but the payoff is big, as it will keep your toenails looking normal without threatening your health.

The common medications available for fighting fungal infections under nails carry with them side effects such as, nausea, stomach pain and cramping, diarrhea, itching rash and hives, and damage to taste buds. There is also a larger danger of harming your liver after protracted use.

Internal Use

For one week only, take one Acidophilus capsule each morning with a cup of water. Take it fifteen minutes before you eat anything. After the week is up, stop taking it internally, and use it only topically as described in the next section.

Mixing Acidophilus For Topical Use

At the same time you begin taking Acidophilus internally do the following:

Always wash your feet and dry thoroughly before you begin.

With a spoon, mix the contents of two Acidophilus capsules with several drops of Vitamin E oil. (You can use another oil like baby oil if you can’t get Vitamin E, but E works best.) You will have to eyeball it until you get used to doing it.

Ideally, you want the mixture to be the consistency of a light paste—runny enough to flow off a spoon onto your toenails, but not so runny that it won’t stay put on the nails. Make sure the mixture completely covers the entire nail surface to the edges and under the top of the nail as well.

You will have to sacrifice one or two pairs of socks to this process. Cut them off below the ankle. After putting a dab of the mixture on each nail and spreading it around, roll the socks back so that you can get your toes in first, then slowly unroll them up your foot. This way will prevent your losing too much of the mixture to the inside of the sock as you pull it on.

You will still need regular maintenance treatments to change the color back and return your toenails to fully normal. To that end, continue using the mixture topically twice a week for three months. After that, once a week should be enough maintenance to keep the fungus away. If it returns, start the treatment over with a week of internal and topical use.

A Recap of The Steps For Topical Use

Always wash your feet and dry thoroughly each time before you apply the mixture.

First Week:

a. Use the Acidophilus mixture daily for first week, while you are also taking a daily capsule internally. But don’t try to file, cut, or trim your toenails this first week. Leave them alone except for this first step: Wash your feet, apply mixture, put on socks, done.

b. Apply Acidophilus mixture to entire nail surface all the way to the edges and under the toenail at the top. It will run onto the skin around the nail, but don’t worry about that.

c. Leave mixture on for one hour minimum; ideally, apply mixture before retiring and leave it on all night while you sleep.

Second Week And Continuing

This is when you start the twice weekly level that you will continue for three months, before reducing to once a week as maintenance.

a. After washing your feet and drying thoroughly, clean under toenails as best you can.

b. Shave toenail surface with a metal file until it is as thin as a normal toenail, or as close as you can get it. You will not have to do this every time you use the mixture, just this first time to start and as needed thereafter.

c. After shaving the surface, cut and trim the nail, and file the leading edge evenly.

d. Apply Acidophilus mixture to entire nail surface all the way to the edges and under the toenail at the top. It will run onto the skin around the nail, but don’t worry about that.

e. Leave mixture on for one hour minimum; ideally, apply mixture before retiring and leave it on all night while you sleep.

SHAVING DOWN THE AFFECTED TOENAIL SURFACE

After the first week of use, the Acidophilus will have partially worked its magic. Your toes will be softer, more pliable, and easier to trim. But don’t start cutting yet.

First, use the “sharp” side of a metal nail file to shave down the surface of each affected toenail. You want it to be as thin as an unaffected toenail when you are finished. Clean the file often while you work.

If you use the Acidophilus mixture regularly twice weekly for three months, and then once a week, the fungus and its effects will stay gone. If you don’t use the mixture regularly, surface shaving can still help prevent ingrown toenails and some of the effects of the fungus. Also, shaving will decrease pain and tenderness, because by reducing the nail you are relieving the pressure on the skin bordering it.

OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR FEET LOOK THEIR BEST

Some spots on the foot—the outer edge of the big toe, the ball of the foot, and the heel—can get rough and scratchy. Using an emery board on these spots can quickly smooth them out. Also make sure to use a good hydrating lotion on these same areas to keep them soft and smooth.

Please be nice to each other, and look for my next blog.

THINGS ARE LOOKING SO GOOD FOR CHERYL THAT SHE HAS POSTPONED HER CANCER SURGERY AGAIN!

I usually talk to Cheryl on Sunday mornings to get an update of the prior week. I got anxious by 10:00 Sunday night, when after two phone messages and three texts I still hadn’t heard back from her. She called Monday morning, a little contrite. Seems that she and an old boyfriend were hanging out enjoying the Easter holiday together.

“All day and night so you couldn’t even call?” I snapped.

“Well, yeah,” she said, “It’s been a long time, if you know what I mean.” Then she giggled.

I thought about it and realized, if she’s feeling good enough for that, it probably bodes well for her cancer. As it turns out I was right.

PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS FROM CHERYL

Mood

Cheryl says she hasn’t felt so good, physically and mentally, since before her diagnosis. She remarked most about not feeling exhausted any more and having so much energy. She says she has a new sense of well being. She says, “Everything feels better. Just everything.”

The Surgery

Her new feelings of well being coupled with the fact that there is now an empty space where the tumor was, have caused Cheryl to postpone her breast surgery from April 12 to June 1, 2016. She wants more time to make sure she really needs surgery; she sees it as a last resort.

Cheryl has scheduled instead a complete examination at a new hospital with new doctors, for April 5. Those results will tell us what effect beta carotene has had on her tumor. If we are correct that beta carotene has shrunken it, she will continue on the natural treatment. In that case, she will show up on June 1, solely for the pre surgery examination, and to show off a little. If we are not correct about what beta carotene is doing, Cheryl will proceed with surgery on that day.

Pain

She had no pain last week.

Regularity

Cheryl continues to be regular. She still has large bowel movements but they have dropped to two to three times daily.

Appetite

Cheryl told me that suddenly Monday night her appetite returned. She was overcome with hunger. She made herself a big ole cheeseburger for dinner. Woohoo! She said it was the best thing she had ever tasted. I don’t think she will be existing on chicken noodle soup, saltines, eggs, and protein shakes any more. This return of her appetite is another indication that her cancer is under control and being eliminated from her now much stronger body.

More Effects of Lecithin

Cheryl has a calcified nodule on the right side of her spine, about an inch above her waist. She says now that it is smaller than it was when she started my natural cancer treatment. We can attribute the reduction in size to the emulsifying powers of lecithin.

Dose Levels

Cheryl continues to take 250 count, of the 25,000 IU strength softgels in a dose of 125 softgels twice daily. Her Vitamin D3 level remains the same. I’m happy to report that she has been able to increase the sunflower lecithin up to the recommended dose of six softgels twice daily, with no stomach distress. This is important as it will increase the rate of removal of toxins and necrotic matter from her body.

Here is another look at Cheryl’s dosage levels chart.

CANCER 101

We have discussed a couple of things so far about how cancer starts and proceeds. Let’s review a bit.

Capehart Cancer Formula

(CA = FRG ≥ X + O + I)©

Cancer equals free radical growth greater than or equal to X, with X being an individual’s tolerance level for said growth.

When free radical growth reaches the threshold for that individual, oxidation, decay, sets in.

As free radicals continue to proliferate and the decay spreads, the body sets off inflammation. If nothing is done to stop the free radical growth, inflammation will continue over time without abating, until it turns into chronic inflammation.

Chronic inflammation is the last step before any cancer. (Shacter, E., PhD., Weitzman, S., MD, (2002) Journal of Oncology Cancer Network, “Chronic Inflammation and Cancer.” http://www.cancernetwork.com/review-article/chronic-inflammation-and-cancer#sthash.A96sQUUT.dpuf)

Free Radicals

We know we can’t avoid free radicals, that we could sit in a sterile room doing nothing and still create free radicals. If you live in an oxygen based environment, you are going to have free radicals. As long as their growth does not reach “X threshold” and overwhelm the body’s defenses, you are safe.

But where do free radicals come from in the first place?

A cell contains two electrons, enclosed inside it, safe and sound. If you drop a hammer on your big toe and effect an injury, you will damage the outer shell of many cells. Once a shell is damaged, it allows the two electrons inside to escape to the outside. The minute these electrons leave the cell’s shell, they become free radicals. A free radical then is an unstable single electron that results from injury to a cell.

“A free radical is an atom…that has an unpaired electron and is therefore unstable and highly reactive.” “Atoms And Elements” http://www.english-online.at/science/atoms-and-elements/atoms-and-important-chemical-elements.htm.

The first thing the two free radicals do upon escaping their cell is attack the nearest healthy cell. They want to steal an electron from a healthy cell so they can become whole again. But all they actually do is damage the healthy cell, and thereby create two more free radicals from every cell they attack. (A free radical cannot hook up with another free radical.) The newly created free radicals continue this process and a cascade occurs where free radical growth becomes exponential.

This cascade leads to massive cellular damage, and cellular mutations like cancer. This process is so fast that free radical growth can exceed millions per second. It is this cascade that leads to oxidation, chronic inflammation, and cancer. (Ibid.)___________________________________________________________

How a simple injury can lead to an inflammation based disease like cancer

toe injury damage to cells in the toe leads to creation of free radicals too many free radicals leads to oxidation and decay throughout the body decay triggers inflammation simple inflammation morphs into chronic inflammation without enough anti-oxidant intake

any cancer

chronic inflammation can lead to

any inflammation based disease

___________________________________________________________

“If free radicals overwhelm the body’s ability to regulate them, a condition known as oxidative stress ensues. Free radicals thus adversely alter lipids, proteins, and DNA and trigger a number of human diseases.….” (Lobo, V., Patil, A., Phatak, A., Chandra, N. (2010) Pharmacogn Review, “Free Radicals, Antioxidants And Functional Foods: Impact on Human Health” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3249911/)

We can see then how cancer and any other inflammation based disorder begin with free radicals. The final step of chronic inflammation sets the stage for any type of cancer anywhere in the body. Therefore, it follows that if you can control free radicals, you can also avoid any disease associated with inflammation, including cancer.

Please stay tuned and let us hear from you if you have comments or questions. In the next blog I will explain exactly why anti-oxidants generally, and beta carotene specifically, can cure and prevent any cancer.

SOME INTERESTING DEVELOPMENTS THIS LAST WEEK SEEM TO INDICATE THAT THE NATURAL CANCER TREATMENT IS WORKING

Cheryl’s flu is gone. It left quickly after she upped her L-Lysine dosage.

SOME PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS FROM CHERYL

Pain

In the last blog I said that Cheryl was having no pain, and assumed that there is no pain with certain cancers until they start poking at you. But this week she is reporting an intermittent “achy” pain in the left breast where the tumor is located. The pain is bad enough at times that she has to take ibuprophen. Still, on some days she is pain free.

The Tumor

The tumor sits directly behind Cheryl’s nipple. When she was first diagnosed and tried to feel that spot, it felt like nothing was there. When the tumor area was touched, it felt like normal tissue. Cheryl could not feel a lump or anything out of the ordinary. When she feels the same area now where the tumor is supposed to be, she says it feels like a hollow space, like something is missing or has been removed. She believes that something is her tumor.

One of the things beta carotene does is shrink tumors, while lecithin helps remove the necrotic tissue from the body. It appears that the enormous doses of beta carotene that Cheryl is taking are breaking up her tumor. We are assuming that the pain is coming from the process of the necrotic tissue separating from the healthy tissue in preparation for removal.

Dose Levels

Cheryl continues to take 250 count, of the 25,000 IU strength softgels in a dose of 125 softgels twice daily. Her Vitamin D3 level remains the same. She is still not able to take large doses of sunflower lecithin without experiencing grave stomach distress.

Note: In addition to the blockage in the milk duct that we discussed in Entry 2, Cheryl also has a blockage between her stomach and gallbladder. This might be a reason for her ongoing digestive complaints, which she had even before the cancer discovery.

Her morning lecithin dose doesn’t bother her. Only the evening dose causes distress, so we have eliminated that dose entirely. Now she is taking only the morning dose, and I will keep her at this level for the duration. It seems to be working to eliminate necrotic wastes, and I don’t want to add any physical distress to what she is already feeling.

Here is another look at Cheryl’s dosage levels chart.

Regularity

Cheryl continues to be very regular, having three to four bowel movements a day, and moving plenty of product each time. As she continues to put out much more than she is putting in, we are attributing the additional quantity to the removal of necrotic tissue and other organic wastes.

Appetite

Cheryl is still mostly living on chicken noodle soup, saltines, and protein shakes. She has been able to add eggs to her diet, and eats them two at a time, scrambled, about three times a week.

CANCER 101

Note: Ordinarily I do not cite references. My conclusions about healing the body are my own. But for cancer, since it is so hard to believe there is a safe easy cure available right now, I am listing citations. I do this now because I want to show you that this information is part of the mainstream. The only thing new is my interpretation of it. My hope is that you can agree on that interpretation after sufficient explanation. My interpretation is that anti-oxidants generally, and beta carotene specifically, will cure cancer when taken in significant doses.

Chronic Inflammation Directly Precedes Cancer

In the last blog we established two things: (1) that according to the medical industry, chronic inflammation is the last stop before cancer flares anywhere in the body. (Shacter, E., PhD., Weitzman, S., MD, (2002) Journal of Oncology Cancer Network, “Chronic Inflammation and Cancer.” http://www.cancernetwork.com/review-article/chronic-inflammation-and-cancer#sthash.A96sQUUT.dpuf) That also means that inflammation is the precursor to other “inflammation based” diseases as well. (Ibid.)

Free Radicals

And (2), that free radicals are constantly proliferating inside you no matter how careful you are about your health. “Free radical formation occurs continuously in the cells as a consequence of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions.” (Lobo, V., Patil, A., Phatak, A., Chandra, N. (2010) Pharmacogn Review, “Free Radicals, Antioxidants And Functional Foods: Impact on Human Health.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3249911/)

This means there is no way to avoid free radicals. You could sit in a sterile room doing nothing and you would still create free radicals. A few free radicals are nothing to worry about. Everyone is walking around with a sizable population in their body. If you breathe oxygen, you are going to have free radicals. As long as their growth does not overwhelm the body’s defenses you are safe.

Other simple life actions will also create free radicals:

eating a sandwich • getting an x-ray • sustaining an injury • getting an infection • pollutant exposure • poor diet with not enough anti-oxidants • working a stressful job • exercising • making love • taking your prescription drugs • radiation exposure • pesticide exposure • and other factors that damage cells

Since you are constantly bombarded by free radicals, your body is good at coping with them as long as their growth level remains low enough and does not reach an individual’s tolerance level. It can also handle them if you take enough anti-oxidants in food and supplement form to contain free radical growth.

Oxidation

But if free radical growth exceeds an individual’s capacity to control it, a condition of decay sets in that is called oxidation. If you cut an avocado and leave it on the counter it will begin to turn brown. The longer it is there, the darker and more rotten it will become. If you left it there long enough you wouldn’t be able to recognize it as an avocado any more. That spoilage and rot are the work of free radicals and oxidation. The same thing can happen inside your body.

Note: If you were to sprinkle a bit of lemon or lime juice over the avocado it would greatly slow down spoilage, because lemon is an anti-oxidant and prevents free radical growth on the avocado. It and other anti-oxidants do the same thing inside your body.

“A balance between free radicals and antioxidants is necessary for proper physiological function. If free radicals overwhelm the body’s ability to regulate them, a condition known as oxidative stress ensues. Free radicals thus adversely alter lipids, proteins, and DNA and trigger a number of human diseases. Hence, application of an external source of antioxidants can assist in coping with this oxidative stress…. Thus, the search for effective, nontoxic natural compounds with antioxidative activity has been intensified in recent years.” (Lobo, V., Patil, A., Phatak, A., Chandra, N. (2010) Pharmacogn Review, “Free Radicals, Antioxidants And Functional Foods: Impact on Human Health” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3249911/)

“Free radicals and antioxidants have become commonly used terms in modern discussions of disease mechanisms,” as there are so many diseases that fall prey to that process. (Aruoma, OI., (1994), Food Chemistry Toxicology, “Nutrition And Health Aspects of Free Radicals And Antioxidants.”)

Capehart Cancer Formula

Let’s look at this information again in relation to my cancer formula:

(CA = FRG ≥ X + O + I)©

Cancer equals free radical growth greater than or equal to X, with X being your individual tolerance level for that growth. Plus oxidation, plus inflammation.

We can see therefore that cancer begins with free radicals, as they are the first step down the road that ends with inflammation. The final step of chronic inflammation sets the stage for an outbreak of any type of cancer anywhere in the body.

Please stay tuned and let us hear from you if you have comments or questions.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING FOR CHERYL WHO HAS ONE MONTH TO BEAT CANCER BEFORE IT TAKES A BITE OUT OF HER

Cheryl hasn’t complained once to me. I know she’s scared. But I only get information about her condition if I ask a question. She answers and stops, so I have to ask follow up questions. She is determinedly stoic. She breaks my heart.

A friend’s husband is out of town on a family emergency, so Cheryl is helping out with their three children. She gets up an hour early so she can drop the little one off at grade school, and the two older kids at high school, making her 14 hour day even longer.

CHERYL HAS THE FLU

Cheryl has been sick with the flu; it seems that everyone she knows has it. I reminded her that L-Lysine will stop any virus within 24 hours. She was taking only a maintenance dose of 2,000 mg twice daily.

I explained that any maintenance dose is designed to help prevent an illness. If it is too low and you catch something anyway, you then have to increase your intake to a “therapeutic” dose. Cheryl will be taking 2,000 mg of L-Lysine every four hours for the next three days. It is important that she not face any other physical stressors beyond her cancer.

SOME PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS FROM CHERYL

Cheryl says that she is feeling fine. Apparently, there is no pain with breast cancer until after they start your treatment. She is trying to get as much sleep as she can.

Cellulite

Cheryl is a buxom, full-bodied woman. She reports that she’s had visible cellulite on her thighs and other spots for a while. After just three weeks on regular doses of Sunflower lecithin, she notes that the cellulite is greatly lessened in some areas, and actually gone in others. She anticipates that she will get rid of all of it thanks to the emulsifying properties of lecithin.

Regularity

Shortly after she started taking lecithin, Cheryl noticed that she was having larger and more frequent bowel movements. I attribute this to the emulsifying properties of lecithin as well.

Cheryl’s regular routine before lecithin was to move her bowels first thing every morning. Evacuating your bowels only once a day is considered a form of constipation. Now she evacuates 3-4 times each day. The surest sign of a healthy colon is to have 3-5 bowel movements a day, so she is doing well in that department.

She believes that lecithin is doing its job in her body and removing necrotic cells and other wastes. She says she has noticed that a lot more is coming out than she is putting in.

Note: Cheryl is taking an enormous amount of beta carotene. Her skin has not turned orange, nor have the whites of her eyes. Feces will turn a deep orange color when taking high doses of beta carotene. But no other orange color shows up anywhere.

Appetite

For about three weeks Cheryl’s appetite has been light. She has been existing on protein drinks, chicken noodle soup, and saltine crackers. I asked her to start eating one or two eggs every day, but they give her painful gas. I also suggested plain pan-cooked chicken breast. She has ordered betaine hydrochloride, a digestive acid. Once she gets it she can start eating eggs again. I’m worried about her getting enough food protein.

AN IMPORTANT CONCERN FOR CHERYL

Cheryl honestly seems to be more concerned that the information against cancer gets out to the rest of the world, than she is about her condition itself. She believes she has a duty to help me prove this for others as much as for herself. She has voiced this on several occasions.

Cheryl works part time as a bartender and a hairdresser. Even though her cancer supplements cost so little compared to conventional treatments, it’s been hard for Cheryl to come up with the extra money. Now she’s working a third job in retail to pay for the supplements.

When I suggested that I ask for small donations, she forbade me, saying, “Don’t worry about me. I’ll get by.” I admire her grit in the face of a life altering event like this.

BASIS FOR CHERYL’S CANCER

Cheryl was told by her oncologist that her breast cancer resulted from a blocked milk duct that had become plugged and calcified. We know that the body sees this calcified plug as a mere “blockage.” Therefore, it will respond quickly to lecithin, which will break up the blockage and open the duct.

THE SUPPLEMENT REGIMEN

Cheryl is taking only three supplements directly targeted at her cancer. Additionally, she continues to take the same regimen of other supplements that she normally takes. For now, I will focus on the cancer only supplements.

Note: I originally assigned Cheryl to take 6 lecithin twice daily as I am anxious to break up the blockage in her duct. That amount was too much for her stomach, and the evening dose was causing her distress during the night. For that reason, we’ve lowered her dosage, and moved the evening dose up to lunch to see if that helps. Once she can handle it we will increase the dosage back up to 12 a day as planned; six plus six.

 Why Beta Carotene

As you will learn in these cancer blogs, beta carotene is the number one best anti-oxidant for fighting cancer. It neutralizes free radicals (cancer cells) and returns them to a normal state better and faster than any other anti-oxidant. It has no equal for this purpose.

Why Vitamin D3

D3 supports beta carotene in its function. Beta carotene needs D3 to be properly assimilated into the body. If you don’t take D3 when you are taking such large doses of beta carotene, you will end up with a vitamin D deficiency. D3 is preferred over regular vitamin D, as it better replicates the D we get from sunshine.

Why Sunflower Lecithin

Lecithin will emulsify and facilitate the removal of the cancer debris from the body. Sunflower lecithin is recommended over soya lecithin, because of the tainting of the soy bean crops with GMO technology.

CANCER 101

Cancer starts with free radicals. They are the first step down the road that ends with cancer.

My Formula For Cancer: (CA = FRG ≥ X + O + I)©

Explanation:

(1) Cancer equals free radical growth greater than or equal to X.

(2) X represents an individual’s tolerance level for free radicals

(3) Plus, oxidation (O)—which is an excess of free radicals and the pre-stage of inflammation

(4) Followed by actual inflammation (I), which over time morphs into chronic inflammation.

The final step of chronic inflammation sets the stage for an outbreak of any type of cancer anywhere in the body.

“A substantial body of evidence supports the conclusion that chronic inflammation can predispose an individual to cancer, as demonstrated by the association between chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and the increased risk of colon carcinoma…. The longer the inflammation persists, the higher the risk of associated carcinogenesis.” (Shacter, E., PhD., Weitzman, S., MD, (2002) Journal of Oncology Cancer Network, “Chronic Inflammation and Cancer.” http://www.cancernetwork.com/review-article/chronic-inflammation-and-cancer#sthash.A96sQUUT.dpuf)

Free Radicals Are Caused By Various Factors

As free radicals are the first step toward cancer, you need to know where they come from first.

A few free radicals are nothing to worry about. Everyone is walking around with a sizable population in their body. If you breathe oxygen, you are going to have free radicals. As long as their growth does not overwhelm the body’s defenses you are safe.

Briefly, a free radical is created whenever a cell is damaged. Cells are damaged in many ways, including:

(1) naturally, from metabolism and digestion,

(2) an irritant, such as that from wearing a tight bracelet that leaves the skin red and tender,

(3) an injury, like banging your shin as you’re getting out of the shower, causing a lump that hurts and shows a bruise,

(4) an infection, anywhere in the body, for any reason,

(5) excess toxins, like air pollutants and radiation that bombard first responders,

(6) poor diet, insufficient in anti-oxidants to control and neutralize free radicals, and

(7) other stressors, specific to an individual.

In my next blog I will explain exactly how a damaged cell turns into a free radical. Please stay tuned and let us hear from you if you have comments or questions.

CHERYL HAS SIX WEEKS TO CURE HER CANCER WITH ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE OR FACE BREAST REMOVAL SURGERY IF IT DOESN’T WORK

Cheryl’s surgery is already scheduled for mid April 2016. She booked it as far out as was safe, to give my health supplement treatment as much time as possible to work. She has a great fear of going under the knife and coming out with fewer parts than she went in with. Or maybe not coming out at all. It happens.

Her name isn’t really Cheryl. She is a real person, and everything else written here about her is true. I promise anyone who comes to me for help, especially with cancer, that they can go through the treatment anonymously. Cheryl does not want her family, friends, or church to know. She believes that sharing it would make everything harder on her. She doesn’t like a lot of fuss. She will tell them when it’s over. I have agreed to honor her wish.

Cheryl is 5’2.” In her 60s. Blue-eyed and buxomy with blond hair to her waist. She’s smart, independent, quick witted, and practical. She gives a lot of sass and likes to flirt. She is rock solid dependable with a strong work ethic. She likes to play by the rules and wants others to do the same. When she smiles her eyes twinkle.

Cheryl drives a red 1969 Mustang. She speeds so often in her convertible that the police in her small town have taken to mailing her the speeding ticket rather than chasing her down, which she seems to enjoy a bit too much for their tastes.

Cheryl has no children but she loves babies and often helps new mothers in town without being asked. Besides bartending she supports herself by operating a home beauty salon. Apparently, women really do tell their hairdressers everything, because if you want to know anything about anybody in town, just ask Cheryl.

I have known Cheryl for five years, since the recession washed me out financially. Some friends in her town offered me their house while they were gone, to try to help me get back on my feet.

I didn’t have to worry about rent for a while, but essentially I was broke and homeless. I took a job as a server at a local country club, hoping to stir up some cash flow. Cheryl was bar manager. I had never worked in a restaurant or bar. Since I had eaten out a million times in my life, I figured I could fake it.

I was wrong.

My first hour I let an $80 cash tab walk out the door. The guy winked at me as he left. I smiled back, and told him to come again, thinking it was my great service. Later, I gave a burger plate to a vegetarian member, and ice-cream to someone who had ordered breakfast. Things got worse after that.

Unshed tears were burning my eyes when at the end of my shift-from-hell the manager said he needed to talk to me in his office. He wasn’t going to fire me, he said, because I worked hard and everyone seemed to like me. But I lacked a sense of “urgency” and for that he didn’t think I would make it.

Cheryl was waiting outside the door when I came out. She patted my back and promised that things would get better. They didn’t. The next day was even worse and involved a lot of broken china. I could see the manager rethinking his decision to keep me on.

But suddenly, every time I was about to make a mistake Cheryl would appear out of nowhere, at my elbow, to stop me. She took responsibility for me, to make sure I succeeded. With her help I stayed on long enough to get promoted four times and get a nice apology from the manager.

THE CANCER

Most people who interact with me personally end up using supplements for their ails. I don’t try, I swear, but it always seems to work out that way. It was no different with Cheryl. So when she called to tell me she had cancer, she had already put herself on a good regimen for defeating it, based on what I’d already told her about inflammation.

Cheryl has had a couple of biopsies, as her doctor wanted to monitor the cancer’s progress. Among other vitamins, she has been taking 100 Beta Carotene softgels each morning with breakfast. The high dose of Beta Carotene helped explain her pathologist’s comment after her most recent biopsy.

He said, “You know what? I am no longer impressed with your tumor, Cheryl.” He must have seen the look of puzzlement on her face, because he went on to say that it wasn’t a “healthy” tumor anymore. Unlike the earlier biopsies, this flesh had fallen apart, lost its structure, while he was trying to study it.

Cheryl and I attribute this tumor destabilization and loss of integrity to the Beta Carotene that she is taking. But 100 a day are not enough to defeat cancer, only slow it down. Cheryl’s dose is higher than that now.

Cheryl had cancer about 20 years ago. At that time, she used large doses of blue green algae, a potent source of anti-oxidants, to cure it. This knowledge of how well anti-oxidants worked, coupled with the pathologist’s comment now, only strengthened Cheryl’s resolve to try the natural way first. Everything else I have told her about wellness turned out to be true. So, with chin up and fingers crossed she’s going forward.

I will write regular blogs updating you with Cheryl’s progress. The next blog will contain details about her exact treatment.

Each of the entry blogs will give you bite-sized explanations about where cancer comes from. How it starts and proceeds. Why all cancers can be treated in the same way no matter where they are located. Why such huge amounts of Beta Carotene are necessary to defeat cancer once and for all. Why cancer is a numbers game. Why cancer is easier to cure and avoid than the common cold. Why the medical industry will never ever “solve” the cancer mystery.

At the end, hopefully you will have a clearer picture of the answers to these questions, and Cheryl will have a cancer free body.

Please stay tuned and let us hear from you if you have comments or questions.

YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR WEIGHT WITH LESS ANGST BY LEARNING MORE ABOUT EVOLUTIONARY FOOD COMPULSIONS

You can go to a hundred places online and find weight loss pills, helpful diet hints, food plans, and another walk through the food pyramid. You won’t find much of that in this blog. But you will gain a deeper understanding of the natural forces that drive you to overeat. It turns out that it isn’t entirely your fault after all if you’re overweight. Not entirely.

YOU MIGHT AS WELL SUBMIT TO THE EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER OVERCOME IT

The first documented primate to humanoid link began evolving into present day humanity about six million years ago. Two million years ago the Homo group, including our own species, Homo Sapien, began its turn on the ladder of evolution. It is believed that our modern human sub species, Homo Sapien Sapien began evolving only about 200,000 years ago, from the genetic threads of those who went before.

That means that the biological unit whose weight you are trying to manipulate got its first programming instructions on how to handle food, famine, and feast about six million years ago. Unfortunately, those ancient instructions cannot be overridden or ignored.

This is the core issue of weight control, so let’s be clear. Your body has been programmed by evolution to have its own agenda independent of your consciousness. It doesn’t care what you would like it to weigh. It cares only about survival. Because of this programming, your body’s set point is going to lean toward being overweight, rather than under.

If you want to control your weight, you have to make it happen within the confines and parameters of this prehistoric programming. Your body will never change. So you have to. Weight control has to happen in your head in conformity with your biology. You have to mentally overcome your body’s coding telling you to consume as much food as you can and more than you need. In other words, to overeat.

But first, more on the evolutionary aspect of trying to lose weight.

FAMINE, FEAST, AND FOOD STORAGE PROGRAMMING MUST ALWAYS BE CONSIDERED IN ANY WEIGHT CONTROL PLAN

Every living creature on Earth depends on the planet for sustenance. Whether it’s access to plant matter or the opportunity to devour each other, Earth provides. But not always enough.

1. Famine

In earliest times, in a pre-supermarket environment, when your next available meal was actually on-the-hoof and roaming free, or growing on the side of a cliff that you had to risk your life to get to, this meant that people sometimes went hungry. Those periods of sustained deprivation, the famines, could last weeks or even years. If the human body had not been programmed by evolution to store resources consumed at an earlier time, it could not have survived the scarcities. And humanity would quickly have gone extinct.

2. Feast

In that same vein, when there is plenty of food available, when there is feasting, the body is coded to push you to consume more food than you need at that moment. Because only by consuming more than it actually needs during feast times can the body have resources to put away for the inevitable famines it has been programmed to expect.

3. Food Storage

Our modern problem is that it’s always feast time in our culture and the body has no real shut off switch when it comes to storing your over consumption. If the body had a true shut off concerning appetite and satiety, you wouldn’t hear about people having walls removed so they could leave their houses. These people are deep in the clutches of unfortunate evolutionary forces that cause them to store resources to a life-threatening extent. The food storage mechanism meant to save them is destroying them instead.

Definition: Satiety: A simple feedback mechanism is responsible for telling your brain to stop eating when you are full.

As you eat your stomach wall expands and two things happen:

(1) The expansion signals your brain that you are filling up and it’s time to stop eating;

(2) A hormone produced at the start of your meal telling your brain that your stomach was empty now stops sending its signal.

The result is two impulses reaching your brain at the same time. One telling you that your stomach is full, and the other telling you that your stomach is no longer empty. This dual mechanism is suppose to make you stop eating when your are full.

As far as Boss Evolution is concerned, that mechanism is just an update on your stomach contents. It has no compelling powers to make you stop eating.

But Boss Evolution can compel you to eat beyond satiety. How many times have you been eating something delicious and simply ignored those signals? Just kept right on eating. Your stomach is designed to stretch to accommodate overeating during feast times, so it’s easy enough to do.

When you diet, you push back against millions of years of coding via evolution. Isn’t it true that when you diet you often feel like you are engaged in a battle with your body? That’s because you are. All your body knows it that you are trying to rob it of its resources and hack into its “savings account.” It’s going to fight to protect its fat stores.

PROGRAMMED OVEREATING

It appears that humans are programmed to overeat for their own protection. Just in case. If you weren’t designed to overeat, why would your stomach be able to expand? The simple truth is that if you weren’t designed to overeat, you wouldn’t be able to.

And it follows then that a propensity for being overweight has been predetermined for the human species. Pity the poor person trying to control his weight. He is living in a culture where it is always feast time, while he is trapped inside a body that is continually storing nuts for a hard winter that never comes.

And yet this is an efficacious system that has worked successfully for eons. In fact, the body’s ability to store calories eaten today for emergencies that may occur tomorrow is the primary reason humans have survived. In prehistoric times, when all the plants died due to drought or other devastation, and the prey disappeared, all humans had between them and the dark oblivion was the fat that had been stored during the feasts.

That primitive compulsion to eat more than you need is why it is so hard to control your eating habits, especially as you are surrounded and bombarded by images urging you to eat. That compulsion is why despite the horrendous statistics on obesity, especially in the U.S., many restaurants still serve single dishes that should be able to feed two people.

Overeating wasn’t a problem when our programming began. Overeating was and is a safety mechanism, a survival tool. Unfortunately, our bodies were not designed for a world of plenty. Today, many humans are at far more risk from having too much to eat than too little. And that’s sad, because there are still many people who go to bed hungry.

PRIMITIVE TRIBAL FEARS ABOUT FOOD RESOURCES STILL WRONGLY INFECT US

The same food compulsion discussed above manifests in other collective ways.

The TV award shows are very popular, as are the nasty fashion police that follow like jackals after the herd. I have watched numerous times as hosts fret on air about a celebrity being too fat or too thin. Both seem to be equally offensive to the camera and to tribal sensitivities.

Large people complain about being stared at. What they may not know is that very thin, anorexic-looking people get equal attention. Did you ever wonder why people are so vexed by the sight of someone being above or below what is considered “normal” weight? It has to do with tribal genetics.

Picture this: You live in a long-ago plains tribe of 30. Each person has specific duties to perform to ensure the tribe’s well being. As always resources are limited and monitored closely. In such a small group, everyone has close knowledge of every other person.

One day it is noticed that Jamal has gained weight, and has developed a tummy paunch. This immediately signals alarm throughout the tribe. Several members report it to the chief. The alarm is caused by an evolutionary perception that since Jamal has gained weight, it can only mean that he is taking more than his fair share of resources, and therefore threatens the safety and survival of everyone. Jamal is therefore suspected of wrong doing.

Or conversely, Ania is whispered about because she has gotten so thin you can clearly see the outlines of her bones. The tribe perceives that she is taking less than her fair share of resources, and is therefore putting them in jeopardy of losing her and her skills as a member resource. Likewise, Ania is suspected of wrong doing.

Both situations threatened the tribe’s resources and welfare equally. That is why it is ingrained in us even today to be suspicious of people who weigh more or less than the tribe intuitively believes is safe. That ancient attitude is based on the same storage programming that compels you to overeat. It was important when the tribe was small. Now that it has grown into the billions, we no longer have to obsess if someone is heavier or thinner than we think is acceptable.

The only factors to consider nowadays are (1) is the person happy and comfortable with their weight and their body, and (2) is the person’s weight such that he or she can be healthy at that size? Health trumps all other considerations.

Health wise, obesity leads to many other disorders that make an individual’s existence painful and unhappy. It also costs the tribe in many ways. If someone doesn’t take care of their own health when they are able, in the end others are forced to do it for them.

THERE IS NO “RIGHT” SIZE FOR A HEALTHY HUMAN

When Marilyn Monroe appeared in The Seven Year Itch in 1955, in that now famous scene over the subway grate, with her white dress floating up sensuously to expose legs and hips, she was a size 14, and considered to be the ideal woman. Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model expanded its demographic one season by selecting two “plus-size” models who were, you guessed it, size 14.

But due to vanity sizing today Marilyn would be a size 6 with the same body as when she was a size 14. It seems that the clothing industry caved in to cultural sensitivities about weight and size. In 1958 a size 8 had a 24 inch waist; today a size 8 has a 30 inch waist. And a size 20 from 1958 is now a size 12.

Definition: Vanity Sizing: This is the practice of reducing tag sizes of larger clothing to make women feel that they are actually thinner than they really are.

Thanks to influential pop figures like the Kardashians, the world has slowly come to accept a more authentic woman figure as ideal. One that is robust and rounded and real. And it is no longer uncommon to see overweight female leads in movies, or held up as sexy figures. Not every body type has to conform and look the same. Our differences are what give us an evolutionary advantage, what make us stronger as a species.

This shift in thinking to a real-woman ideal is healthy. But make no mistake, it can’t be taken too far without back firing. You don’t get a free pass from illness if you are overweight, no matter how much acceptance you receive from your peers. You will still pay for it with serious health issues and a shortened life.

When is the last time you saw an obese senior? There aren’t many, because the obese die young, with a low chance of surviving into old age. Obesity is still the number one preventable cause of death in the U.S., because it factors into so many other disorders.

The right size for a human being is a size that lets you eat and enjoy food without endangering your health. But don’t worry about looking like anyone else. Each of you is beautiful in some way, and there is always someone else who will notice and appreciate your beauty. Just be yourself so they fall for the real you. And practice a little discipline about what and how much you put in your mouth.

TRICKS TO GET AROUND THE COMPULSION PROGRAMMING

Okay, so now we know why it is so hard to lose weight. But there are behaviors you can use to lessen the impact of the biological imperatives we’ve been talking about.

First There Is The Practical • • • •

PORTION CONTROL IS PARAMOUNT

Portion control is the hardest part of dieting, but it has to be done if you want to control your weight. If you could conquer this one single step you could weigh what you please without changing anything, including your food choices. You could pretty much eat whatever you wanted, no matter how high in calories or fat, if you restricted yourself to a small enough portion. Sometimes this might mean only a couple of bites, but you could have them guilt free.

It would be better if you could be attracted to healthier foods. That would mean you could eat more, stay healthy, and still lose weight. An important step toward weight control is to start eating a portion size that supports the weight you want to be, not the weight you are. There are things you can do to make portion control easier.

  1. Use Small Dishes

This is more helpful than you might think. It fools the brain, and consequently the stomach, into thinking you are getting a whole plate or bowl of food. You’d be surprised at how the brain’s perception can effect your sense of reality. You are filling up a plate, but, since the plate is smaller the portions have to be. Over time you will get used to smaller portions. You will actually eat less at each meal, but possibly feel just as satisfied. Without trying very hard you can lose weight over time, while not feeling like you are actually dieting.

  1. No Second Helpings No Matter What, Where, Or When

Think about it. If you don’t apply this logic to your regimen, you could use a small plate or bowl, but load it up over and over until all advantage of using a smaller dish has been lost.

  1. TV Dinner Portion Sizes Can Provide Guidance

If you can’t get the hang of small portions, buy a low cal TV dinner (around 400 calories). When it is cooked remove the food from the container and place it on your “small” plate. Take a good look at the portions as they look on the plate you will always use. Take a photo. Hang that photo on the refrigerator door. Refer to that photo every time you eat a meal. Always keep your portions that size.

  1. Better To Eat More Small Meals Daily Than Fewer Large Ones

Smaller meals burn off faster, and don’t so easily end up as stored fat. Larger meals take longer to digest. They slow down your digestive system, and are more likely to cause a higher percentage of fat storage. People are discouraged from nibbling between meals, but I know thin people who nibble their way through the day. Nibbling only adds weight if you are eating three regular meals a day on top of the nibbling. If you don’t eat that way there is no harm in nibbling.

  1. Eating Smaller Portions Has Other Benefits Besides Losing Weight

In the 1960’s there was a particularly interesting experiment done on appetite and food consumption, as it relates to good health and longevity. Rats were separated into two groups. Both groups were fed the same food, what was described as a “typical American diet.” The difference was that each group was given a different portion size. But everything else was the same.

One group got several meals a day, plus between meal snacks, as much food as they wanted, anytime they chose. The second group got just enough food to satisfy their daily nutritional needs.

Which group do you think all died early and sick?

It was the group that ate as much as they wanted. The group that had their portions controlled lived a much longer and disease free life. Keep in mind that they ate the same food. Only the portion size was different.

YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING

When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, it covered Pompeii in tons of ash and pumice rising 20 feet. When excavations began, scientists gained detailed insight into the lives of its citizens by studying the remains. The scientists separated the bodies into the servant class and the ruling class right away. I was intrigued by this. How bodies dead for centuries could give up that kind of specific information.

It came down to the shape and strength of their respective bones!

The servant class had strong, dense, non-porous bones. The aristocracy had weak, thin, porous bones. Servants had stronger bones because they had to stand, bend, lift, pull, stretch, push, and carry in the process of caring for the lord and lady of the manor. The lack of movement found in the sedentary life of the rich, caused bones to weaken and growth to slow down or even stop.

It is the movement of muscle across bone that signals the body to increase bone growth. That’s why exercise makes your bones grow. Extra muscle movement over the bones tells the body that more is needed from that part of the bone structure. The body then gets busy bulking up the effected bones.

If you’re trying to lose or control your weight, exercise—movement—is essential. It burns calories. It makes you look better and thinner right away. Even if you don’t actually lose much weight, you can “visually” lose five pounds just by exercising regularly for a week. Meaning, you may weigh the same but you will look thinner.

You’ve heard it before but it bears repeating: weight is simply calories burned versus calories consumed. If they are equal you maintain your weight. If more goes in than is burned, the extra is sent to storage and you gain weight. The only way to lose is to burn off more calories than you consume.

Note: I don’t like to exercise. I certainly don’t like getting cleaned up and dressed and driving somewhere just to exercise.

My solution is the Body Rider stationery bicycle. It is such a simple, incredibly effective machine. You get a great heart healthy aerobic workout without stressing your knees. It burns a lot of calories. It retails online for around $100, with free shipping. It uses no electricity, only the raw energy that you provide. It works not only the legs but the upper arms, which switch over every time your legs do. It has a built in fan, and a computer LED type display that gives you information on speed and distance traveled.

Another fine feature about any bicycle is what it does for the butt and lower back. It strengthens the lower back, and practically overnight lifts and firms the butt, making a noticeable difference. That and the Abs of Steel sculpting workout I memorized keep me home in my PJs and out of my car. I exercise almost every day, just take the six steps across my bedroom floor and I’m at the gym.

If you want your body to remain vital you have to keep it moving. Fifteen minutes a day on any kind of bicycle or other strong aerobics, plus fifteen minutes of floor or free weight exercises, four days a week, can keep you healthy and looking good. If you can’t do 15 minutes of either, start at 1 minute and move up 1 minute a day from there, but you must keep moving.

Then There Is The Counter Intuitive • • • •

DESSERT IS MANDATORY

I’m working on a book called Dieting With Dessert, based on the following concept.

Because of the compulsive programming we discussed above, it is important when dieting to make sure your body never gets the idea that you are going hungry. If it finds out you are dieting it’s all over. It will lower your metabolism to ensure that fewer calories are burned, and the less you try to eat the slower it will run. You can still lose the weight but it will be hell.

If you were traveling with Han Solo on his space ship, and a malfunction caused his craft to start losing power, he would power down all systems except life support and defense, to preserve power. Your body is the space ship carrying you through life.

If your body senses that it’s power source has been compromised it will lower the rate at which it runs to preserve its stored resources. This ensures that fewer calories are being burned from its “savings account.” There is no way around this except to make your body believe that you are not dieting, while still actually dieting.

The secret is dessert. As long as you eat dessert once a day, your body is less likely to lower your metabolism, because dessert signals feast not famine. It is very hard for your body to process the dichotomy that you are simultaneously dieting and also eating chocolate cake. In other words, if you’re eating dessert there is nothing for your body to fear.

The dessert serving should be a reasonable size (200-350 calories), and of course no seconds. But there are no limitations as to choice. Have any dessert that you want, but know that the richer and more “expensive” it is in calories, the smaller must be your portion size.

This practice can be fun and motivating. Planning your diet around small daily servings of the most delicious desserts can be the reward that gets you through a tough day of food denial. It also helps you stick with your diet. It is the “carrot” that can keep you on the treadmill. But this only works if you are otherwise seriously dieting.

YOUR METABOLISM WILL PUNISH YOU FOR SERIAL DIETING

You should not continually go on and off diets. Every time you diet, you signal your body that you have entered famine conditions. Every time you enter famine conditions, your body lowers your metabolism to slow down the expenditure of calories. After a number of diets, weight loss becomes nearly impossible because your metabolism is set so low. This result after so many attempts can be disheartening and can ruin one’s initiative to lose weight.

SHORT TERM WEIGHT GAIN vs. LONG TERM WEIGHT GAIN

Your body is willing to let go of the stored fat from “short term feasting,” without putting up a struggle. This is the fat and stored calories resulting from short term overeating, say, as you would during holidays. You can get the weight off fast if you attack it as soon as the event is over. Your body will only easily give up that weight it has recently gained. You don’t want to do this short term dieting often or for long, or it may trigger the sluggish metabolism associated with serial dieting.

If you wait too long to lose the holiday weight, until after your body has oved the fat from “short term savings” to “long term savings,” it is much harder to get rid of. That’s when your body will really wage battle against your diet efforts.

TRY TREATING CALORIES LIKE YOU TREAT MONEY

If you are part of the 99 percent you have to watch what you spend. If you are trying to lose weight you have to watch what you eat. In both cases you are dealing with categorical units—money and calories—that can be kept track of. Money, you want to increase and hold on to. Calories, you want to decrease and let go of.

To be successful when dealing with money or calories you have to control yourself most of the time. The lesson is that you can be naughty some of the time, and get away with it. If you’re a spendthrift or glutton 15 percent of the time, you can still get ahead or stay healthy. But if you’re a spendthrift or glutton 85 percent of the time, you’re going to be poor or obese.

But when you are bad occasionally you can make up for it by balancing your over-the-top excessive spending or eating, with short term conservative behavior to bring things back into balance, i.e., build the money back up in your checking account by passing up other purchases that you would like to make. Or quickly get rid of the extra pounds you gained by eating dinner salads for a week.

Just try being as careful with your calories as you are with your money.

DRASTIC MEASURES

Sometimes it feels like the body is winning that war we talked about earlier. That’s the time to dig deeper and get creative. Sometimes you have to resort to drastic, but never harmful, measures to control your appetite.

One example: It was hard to eat properly during the first year of law school due to the all day and most of the night schedule of class and studying. The result was that you noshed on comfort foods day and night. The only exercise you got was lifting a legal tome off a library shelf. At home I kept finding myself standing at the open refrigerator door, staring in. When I turned around I had a law book in one hand and some sort of food in the other.

That’s when I bought my first length of chain and a padlock.

Every night at 8:00 I wrapped the chain around my refrigerator and snapped the padlock. I chose that time because I’d read somewhere that eating close to bedtime sends the calories directly to storage. I also put any tasty morsels from my cabinets in the fridge before I locked it. I had a roommate so I had to leave the key in easy reach.

I lost the 15 pounds. By the time I graduated law school I had given up the chain. (I won’t say that I haven’t resorted to it again from time to time.) You may be wondering what kept me from sneaking in anytime I wanted since the key was right there. How stupid would a person feel to go to all that trouble and then sabotage their own efforts? No sir. The chain was sacrosanct once it was padlocked. I unlocked it at 7:00 each morning.

KNOWLEDGE BESTOWS DUTY

At the top I said that if you were overweight it wasn’t entirely your fault. Now that you know what your evolutionary weaknesses are when it comes to controlling your weight, and why they exist, you have a duty to try harder to overcome them for your own sake.

Please be nice to each other, and look for my next blog: Blog 36: Entry 1: Cheryl’s Cancer Log, where you can follow this breast cancer survivor through a six-week natural cure that worked.
