RECOMMENDED SUPPLEMENT: LECITHIN
I watched Barbara Walters’ TV special on heart disease recently. She and her guests—former President Bill Clinton, David Letterman, Robin Williams, Regis Philbin, and Charlie Rose—all had open heart surgery to perform bypasses to blocked coronary arteries. She also spoke to Luke Russert, journalist Tim Russert’s son, about his father’s sudden death from heart disease at 58.
Walters and her guests are comfortable in front of a camera. They all put on their bravest professional faces, and didn’t share what the surgery is really like. Who wants to relive such a horrific experience? My heart went out to every one of them.
Walters wanted her Special to be upbeat, about surviving, about beating the odds, about new beginnings. Not the stalking death that brushed so very close as it passed them by this time. Not the gut-wrenching physical abuse the surgery entails. Not the all consuming stress. And she succeeded. The Special brought uplift and imparted information. Good job.
WHAT REALLY HAPPENS IN OPEN HEART SURGERY
But let’s take a brief look anyway, at a little of what they actually went through, maybe as an incentive to try harder to avoid this hideous, medieval procedure, called open heart surgery. Because I promise you, guarantee to you, that there is an easier way. If the people on Walters’ Special had used Lecithin regularly, the blockages would never have been able to form, and they never would have needed the surgery. I am going to tell you how to avoid what they went through, how to avoid the following:
A VERY CONDENSED OVERVIEW OF OPEN HEART MISERY
1. First there’s the emotional agony of dragging around the soul-chewing, spirit-killing information of what you’re about to go through. Having your dreams haunted by it.
2. Then being rolled into the cold, sterile, white room on a gurney, fingers secretly crossed under the blanket, because you Googled this procedure and you know that while the survival rates are good, they aren’t 100 percent. You know the masks are important, but still wish you could see people’s faces. The room smells too clean.
3. They move you from the gurney to the operating table and commence putting tubes in your arms and other places. In a few minutes you are gratefully unconscious, lying there vulnerable in every sense, your life in another person’s hands.
4. After slicing open your chest, your sternum (breastbone) is cracked in half, sawed through and separated, so the surgeons can get their skilled hands on your heart. Their hands and those lovely steel instruments. And if you are bothered by the sound of your dentist’s drill, just be glad you’re out cold while this is happening.
5. Next, your doctor decides from where to get the grafts to make the bypasses. Perhaps he’ll cut up your thoracic chest artery, which is more easily isolated than others in the area, or maybe sacrifice one of the veins in your legs. There is a higher purpose here, can’t worry about collateral damage.
6. At some point your heart may be stopped, stopped!, and you are connected to a heart-lung machine that will provide circulation for your body. You are now technically dead. The pump is keeping you “alive.”
If you are not put on-pump and your heart is not stopped, your doctors will stabilize your heart with other medical “devices.”
7. Then they go to work cutting open and replacing sections of three, four, or even an amazing five of your blocked coronary arteries, with the grafting material they harvested from other parts of you.
8. Finally, 6 or 10 or even 20 hours later your surgery is complete. You are then stitched up like an old suit. If you were “on-pump” your heart is restarted, hopefully. Your sternum is creaked back into place like pieces of broken china and fastened with stainless steel wires, which will stay in your chest permanently. Your chest cavity skin is sewed up with more sutures. Tubes are left in your chest for a while to drain the cavity of normal post-operative bleeding.
9. You spend 1 to 2 days in Critical Care, maybe on a respirator for part of the time, 2-3 more in the hospital before discharge. The cracked sternum takes up to a year or more to heal completely. You hear that a small percentage of people report cracking in their chests when bending or stretching, even years later.
Charlie Rose described it as, “hell.”
I do not want to make light of the efforts of the doctors and support staff who do their best in these surgeries, who save lives every day. Superior medical teams saved Walters and her guests, who might not be alive otherwise.
But my point is that this surgery is barbaric given the available alternative, which is to take a handful of Lecithin softgels twice daily. It’s cheap, it’s effective, it’s easy on the stomach, there are no side effects, and it works fast. I’ve seen people scheduled for heart surgery avoid it with Lecithin therapy. Compare the options. Do you choose supplements or surgery? Because it’s one of the biggest decisions of your life.
Clinton spoke frankly about his 90 percent blockage and quadruple bypass. His cardiology appointment was on a Friday. His doctors wouldn’t let him leave the hospital for the weekend, fearing he wouldn’t be alive Monday morning for the surgery. But the most helpful comments came from Letterman and Russert.
Letterman, along with Walters, had five coronary arteries blocked, necessitating a remarkable, “quintuple” bypass! (Remember when a “double bypass” sounded like a big deal? Do you suppose there are sextuple, or septuple, or even octuple bypasses in our future?)
Maybe it was easier for Letterman to be real with us. He’s used to bearing his soul five nights a week. We’re more than an audience, we’re his therapy couch. We’ve been through the triumphs and travails with him and still love him. Maybe that’s why Dave said real things like, “I would find myself busting into tears and sobbing uncontrollably . . . [the surgery] assaults every part of your system . . . [the experience] is horrendous mentally, emotionally, and physically.”
Letterman’s best insight was in the statement, “I wouldn’t be surprised to have to have the surgery again.” In fact, unless he adds Lecithin, an emulsifier, to his diet, he can pretty well count on it. Even now, blockages are forming slowly in his arteries again. According to cardiologists, it’s not unusual to have two or three follow up surgeries in connection with the original one, sometimes to add stents to the new bypasses that have collapsed, not to mention needing the procedure all over again for new blockages that form.
Walters asked Luke Russert how his father could pass a stress test in April and die of a heart attack in June, despite being on medication for asymptomatic (no symptoms) coronary artery disease. His doctors reported that built up deposits of cholesterol plaque in an artery had ruptured, causing sudden coronary thrombosis—death, where all blood to the heart is stopped suddenly by a complete blockage.
The only answer to Walters’ question is that you can have an arterial blockage large enough to kill you and still pass a stress test on a given day. But Luke’s answer was broader and more to the point. He said, “There is not enough known about heart disease, especially prevention.”
And that’s the real problem here, that our attempts to prevent heart disease are so feeble and archaic.
YOU CAN HAVE A HEART ATTACK EVEN IF YOU ARE FIT
Just as a stress test is not a good predictor of coronary blockages, being a trim fit athlete doesn’t mean you’re safe from heart attack, either: Remember Jim Fixx, the champion long distance runner credited with helping start America’s fitness revolution? Author of The Complete Book of Running? He started running at the age of 35, quit smoking, lost 60 pounds. He was found dead at 52 by the side of Vermont Route 15, from a massive heart attack while running. His father, a former editor at TIME, had died of a heart attack at 43, but Fixx was a big red-meat eater anyway. An autopsy revealed blockages of 95 percent, 85 percent, and 70 percent in three of his main coronary arteries.
And blockages are not just an older person’s disorder: The US Army did a two year study of new recruits, ages 18 to 21, and discovered that over half of them already had 35 percent arterial obstruction.
Take a look at what you and your family eat. Chances are if it’s high fat, starch or cholesterol, it’s going to spend a long time in your bodies. Remember that last fatty meal smothered in butter sauce that you so enjoyed? Well, if you don’t use Lecithin regularly, parts of that meal are still hanging around inside your body, clinging to the walls of your arteries, setting up future blockage disorders like heart disease. Even if you ate it five years ago.
You don’t have to forego your favorite comfort foods, just cut back a bit, and take precautions like adding Lecithin to your diet. I love butter, I love mayonnaise, I don’t like substitutes. If I’m eating it, I want the real thing. But I take Lecithin every single day, more when I pig out during the holidays.
I’m particularly saddened by Clinton’s surgery: After the press started mocking “Bubba’s” eating habits, I sent him a gift copy of Vitamin Remedies That Really Work, with a bookmark at chapter 9, Lecithin. I told him he could eat burgers and cheese fries once in a while, but he needed to take an emulsifier. Otherwise, he would face heart disease later in life. I never heard back except a thank you note. Obviously, he didn’t take my advice. But if Clinton starts taking Lecithin, he will live to see not only Chelsea’s children, but her children’s children. If not, it won’t be a “blockage” disorder like heart disease that does him in.
WOMEN ARE AT SPECIAL RISK
Despite all her guests being men, Walters informed us that more women die of heart disease now than do men. Heart disease is the number one killer of women. According to the American Heart Association, more than one in five females has some form of cardiovascular disease, which takes the lives of more than a half million women every year. That’s more than the next five causes of death for women . . . combined.
Worse news is that the kind of heart disease women get, and the way it behaves, is often different than in men. For instance, we’re all familiar with pains in the arm or chest that signal an imminent attack, but did you know that women present with entirely different symptoms, and that they may appear up to a month before the attack?
The National Institute of Health reports that the most commonly reported symptoms of heart attack in women are unusual fatigue (71%), sleep disturbance (48%), and shortness of breath (42%). Fewer than a third of women reported having chest pains. Almost half reported having no chest pain at any time. Some women reported a feeling of unusual “weakness” in one or both arms.
HEART DISEASE BEGINS WITH DIET
Heart disease is directly attributable to what you eat. It starts with fats, starches, and high-cholesterol foods, ones that cause “blockages.” Our bodies are not equipped to properly process such a diet without additional help from an emulsifier.
HOW DO BLOCKAGES FORM IN THE CORONARY ARTERIES?
When you eat something your body has trouble processing, like a sirloin steak with butter sauce and a fried egg, baked potato with bacon bits and sour cream, green salad with blue cheese dressing, and crème brulee, without also providing it with an emulsifier, it stores the left over gunk in all sorts of inner nooks and crannies. Just like you do in real life. But instead of a drawer, closet or garage, the body stores it in your arteries, your heart, your lungs, sinus, joints, liver, kidney, gallbladder, penis, spinal cord, colon, eyes, any old place it finds room. In the process it causes you to get sick with a blockage disorder, like heart disease.
Blockages are a whole subset of diseases unto themselves in my paradigm of wellness. From the outside it may look like a multitude of different disorders, like heart disease, or Alzheimer’s, or a blocked sinus, or erectile dysfunction, or lung congestion, or peripheral artery disease, or glaucoma, or a blood clot, but it’s actually a blockage masquerading as a plethora of different problems. A diet that causes blockages puts you at risk for many disorders besides heart disease. But all of the blockage disorders can be treated successfully with Lecithin, an emulsifier.
Your major organs depend on a constant flow of blood for oxygen and nourishment. Your heart muscle is no different. But if the arteries—the pathways that carry blood and oxygen—become blocked with plaque and solidified organic debris, less and less blood, and therefore nourishment, gets through. Without proper nourishment and enough oxygen from this steady blood supply, your heart will fail.
Think of an army using a road to get supplies to the troops. Think of your heart as those troops waiting for the supplies. If the road becomes blocked with disabled vehicles, it will be impossible for supply trucks to get through. That makes it necessary to send in additional troops for the sole purpose of removing the blockage on the road. Once the blockage is gone, the trucks can roll. Think of Lecithin as those additional troops sent in to remove the blockage so the supply lines to your heart can be kept open.
USING THE EMULSIFYING POWERS OF LECITHIN TO KEEP YOUR ARTERIES OPEN WITHOUT SURGERY, STENT, OR ANGIOPLASTY
[Definitions: SURGERY: open heart or valve replacement; STENT: a flexible tube made of plastic or wire mesh to support and prop open weakened arteries in collapse; ANGIOPLASTY: a balloon used instead of or along with a stent to support and prop open weakened arteries in collapse.]
Lecithin is an emulsifier and therefore has great abilities to keep organic particles in suspension, as a mixture. It is a natural substance extracted from soybean oil. It is known to be safe, and has been used in our food supply since the early 1900’s. Take a look in your cabinets. Lecithin is used as an ingredient in countless foods and cosmetics, because of its ability to emulsify, stabilize, thicken, and moisturize.
Without Lecithin, when you opened a box of biscuit mix, it wouldn’t come out in a nice powdery stream, but would plop into your bowl in funky clumps. Without Lecithin, your facial moisturizer wouldn’t be creamy and smooth when you stick your finger in, but would show the oils coagulated and greasy. Without Lecithin, your mayonnaise would be a congealed mess, unspreadable. Likewise, your peanut butter. Lecithin is what keeps ingredients in suspension, as a mixture, and keeps oils from separating from each other and other ingredients.
It’s Lecithin’s ability to keep organic particles in suspension that makes it such a valuable food supplement. Is it such a huge leap from witnessing Lecithin’s known properties on other organic and biological material outside our bodies to understanding that it can do the same thing inside them? To me it is a straight line of logic.
Lecithin does the same thing in your body as it does in the food and cosmetic container: keeps organic particles suspended, not allowing them to clump together. In your system, each Lecithin molecule binds with an organic waste molecule and prevents it from joining with other similar molecules, by holding it in suspension while it travels through your body and can be safely expelled.
Without enough Lecithin in your diet, oils, fats, and other organic compounds will clump together, accumulate, solidify, clog up vital areas, and cause blockage disorders like heart disease. With enough Lecithin, plaque and other organic debris will be held in suspension and will not settle on the walls of your coronary arteries.
Common forms of heart disease:
1. Atherosclerosis: This is a chronic progressive disorder, meaning it doesn’t go away naturally and gets worse over time. The lining of the arteries gets blocked by built up deposits of everything from cholesterol, fats, calcification, and abnormal cells, to organic debris that turns into plaques. Your body cannot break up and expel these deposits without help from an emulsifier. 2. Coronary Artery Disease: This is the same condition as Atherosclerosis, except it refers only to a blockage in coronary arteries—the specific vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle. 3. Valvular Heart Disease: This is a problem with a heart valve whose function is to maintain the forward flow of blood through the heart by opening and closing when appropriate. It manifests as a blockage in the valve, slowing down blood flow, or an ill fitting valve that permits leakage when closed, probably also caused by a partial blockage. 4. Angina Pain: This is chest pain, sometimes excruciating, that occurs when a blockage from one of the above disorders gets large enough to slow down the flow of blood to a particular part of the heart muscle. 5. Myocardial Infarction: This is a heart attack, usually occurring due to a blockage in the coronary arteries that disrupts the flow of blood to the heart muscle. It is the end result of one or more of the above disorders. Look at all of these definitions for heart disease. Every one of them contains some form of the word blockage. That means if you could find a way to stop blockages from forming, you would essentially end all heart disease. No blockage, no heart disease. |
The smartest path is prevention. If you wait for a heart attack before changing your diet, first you may not survive it, and second, even if you do survive you are going to pay dearly for it. And I’m not talking about your bank account.

NOTES
Remember, these are not pills you’re taking, but concentrated food supplements. This isn’t medicine. It’s nutrition.
Lecithin is the best natural emulsifier available, and will safely break up blockages in your coronary arteries or anywhere in your body. Co-Enzyme Q10 strengthens the heart muscle. Beta Carotene will fight inflammation that accompanies plaque buildup. Vitamin D3 will assist Beta Carotene in its functions. (If you cannot find Vitamin D3, you may use Vitamin D.)
I have recommended Puritan’s Pride brand because their Lecithin is from soybeans only, and contains a minimum of 70 mg of phosphatides in each 1200 mg softgel, equivalent to 61 percent phosphatides. The value of a Lecithin product is determined by the percentage of phosphatides it contains, because they activate the fat emulsifying process in your body. You may use another brand but make sure it conforms to these specifications or it will not work as I described.
When you use Lecithin regularly, in the beginning you will notice that you are coughing up and blowing out of your nose, a lot more mucous than usual. This is happening because Lecithin is breaking up blockages and causing mucous and other wastes to be expelled. This is a good sign and will taper off as your body cleans itself.
Lecithin will NOT cause chunks of plaque to rupture, fall off the artery wall and into your bloodstream, threatening a flow stoppage. Lecithin works on a molecular level, mincing away at the blockage, breaking off molecule-sized bits and escorting them through your blood stream (like a cop holding onto a criminal), keeping them in suspension (under arrest), and making sure they don’t team up with other criminals (clump together and cause a blockage), until they can be disposed of safely.
Lecithin Granules are best used in blender drinks and sprinkled on salads, fresh cut fruit, and cereals. Make sure to consume it uncooked, in its natural state. You can use it in cooked recipes for texture and smoothness, but those amounts do not count toward your daily maintenance dose.
One heaping tablespoon of Lecithin Granules is equal to six softgels. You can’t take too much. Feel free to use additional amounts liberally.
If you take more Beta Carotene than your body can process you might get a mild, dull headache. It lasts as long as it takes your body to utilize the extra Beta Carotene, usually a couple hours. Some people get an itchy rash for a couple hours that can be relieved with Benadryl. There are no other side effects because Beta Carotene will not harm you. It will not turn your skin or the whites of your eyes orange, but in larger doses it will turn your feces that color.
If you take Beta Carotene without also taking Vitamin D, you will deplete your stores of Vitamin D and develop a Vitamin D deficiency. It usually manifests as sores on the inside of the mouth. Be sure to take Vitamin D when you take Beta Carotene and there will be no problem.
Do not take mixed carotenoid products. They are a marketing gimmick, do not bestow additional benefits to you, and will not work as I have described. Use only straight up Beta Carotene.

Lynn, This might be hard to believe but I have recently found a couple of people at our super market trying to sub Victim A for beta carotene. I told them, they aren’t the same. As you know Vitamin A in the dosage we need to take beta carotene is toxic Just wanted to pass this info to others. Keep up the good work. John
Hi John,
You are right and I hope the people you spoke to will do as you say. Beta carotene works better than Vitamin A when it comes to healing. I’m not sure about the reports of toxicity, because the medical industry is always crowing about supplements poisoning us. But why take the chance, as you have to take huge doses of beta carotene to affect treatment. There is no contest or comparison between the two. People should not use Vitamin A, but should instead sub in beta carotene.
Thanks for writing, Lynn
Hi Lynn,
You say in the blog to take 1 tbs. lecithin granules two times per day, will it still work as well if I were to take 2 tbs. lecithin granules one time per day, at breakfast? (I am also taking 6-lecithin softgels two times per day).
Thanks for your blog. Mark
Hi Mark,
Yes, once a day is fine, as you are getting the correct amount each day. The granules along with the softgels will ensure that you will be free of heart disease and other blockage disorders for your whole life.
Thanks for writing, Lynn.
Hi Lynn,
Since Lecithin keeps fat particles in suspension, can taking high doses of lecithin (3 or more doses per day) make the blood thicker, so that when I take my blood pressure it registers higher than it should? How long would a person need to take high doses of lecithin to see a lowering of blood pressure? Thanks For Your Blog.
Mark
Hi Mark,
During a break in an interview on KOST radio in Los Angeles, the host told me that her blood pressure was so high (180/120 on a good day), that she had to take her blood pressure twice daily, record it and send to her doctor. I told her about lecithin and she began to use it. In the beginning, she didn’t take the recommended doses every day. She told me that on any day that she took lecithin her blood pressure dropped to a normal (118/78). On days that she didn’t use lecithin her blood pressure went back up. So it appears that the results of using lecithin are immediate. No, it won’t thicken your blood; it will only add years to your life.
Thanks for writing, Lynn
Dear Lynn,
Forgive me for disturbing you again. I’m just writing to thank you deeply for literally saving my life. Ever since starting the lecithin my chest pain has slowly but surely completely disappeared. My blood pressure dropped 15 points in two and a half months I feel my mind and my body feel clearer than they have been in a very long time. There are no words to explain or convey my gratitude to you. I hope everyone reads this and understands that, yes they can live a long healthy life! I have put my parents and husband on a lecithin regime and I am diligent that they follow it every single day!
I also purchased your book and of course, the first thing i did was flip to chapter nine. I plan on following the lecithin protocol there seeing that its much more detailed. I am assuming that’s the correct thing to do?
I just have one more thought to add. I realized that the non gmo soy lecithin has a decent amount of omega 6, my understanding is there has to be some balance between the threes and the sixes so I have taken up to adding a tablespoon of flax and a tablespoon of chia seeds to my daily diet along with a fish oil capsule to balance everything. These seeds are void of saturated fats but pretty high in polysaturated fats, I’m assuming that this shouldn’t be a problem bc of the lecithin emulsifying action. Is my thought process correct?
Thank you again a million and a million times over for being an angel of health on this planet.
Peace and joy,
Maria Nikopoulos
Hi Maria,
I’m so happy you have learned about lecithin. It and beta carotene are the two most important supplements to good health. Lecithin is responsible for eliminating and preventing half of the diseases that plague humanity.
Yes the additional flax and chia are a fine addition to your regimen. Your reasoning is sound and correct.
Your endorsement is so sincere and enlightening that I’m going to post it as a blog. It will be Blog 49. I hope that you are a subscriber. If so you will get notification that it has posted. If not check back. It will be on the home page.
Thanks for writing.
Lynn,
Just wanted to add one more thought. I have been reading about lecithin online for a couple of days now and I am reading about people who cleared out their plaque with it which is great. But I am also coming across articles that state that Lecithin combines with gut flora to create TMAO in the body which leads to the hardening of arteries. Is there any validity this statement?
Evan
Hi Evan,
Don’t believe any bad things that you read about Lecithin. In fact, what you read has it backwards–and there is zero validity in it. Lecithin is what stops hardening of the arteries. It is stunning how much stupid stuff is online. Ignore it. Lecithin and Beta Carotene are the most important supplements to our good health. And together can control and prevent over 70% of what goes wrong with the body. Never be without Lecithin, whether softgels or granules. Make sure if you are using soya Lecithin that it is non GMO. Otherwise you can use sunflower Lecithin. I prefer non GMO Lecithin.
Thanks for writing. Lynn
Hi Lynn,
Fantastic information! Just one question. I see that some people are taking just the granules and some just the soft gels. Does it make a difference? Do you have to take them during certain times of the day, or on an empty stomach? Can I put the granules in my cold oatmeal or my protein shake? Would that count towards my daily maintenance dose?
Hi Evan,
Most people prefer softgels because it is the easiest way to take Lecithin. The granules are harder to take but are more powerful, and cheaper to use. One tablespoon equals 6 softgels. Lecithin won’t bother your stomach as long as it’s not GMO Lecithin. And it doesn’t matter what time of day that you take it. You can put granules on cold oatmeal. I use granules in a blender shake with fruit and milk, because I don’t like the consistency of the granules on regular food. Yes, if you use granules without heating them, they can count toward your daily maintenance dose.
Remember that the only thing as important as Lecithin to good health is Beta Carotene.
Thanks for writing, Lynn.
Dear Lynn,
Thank you fr responding! I’ve been faithfully taking 4 scoops of Lecithin through out the day and am starting to feel much better. I’ve been doing this for about three weeks now and the chest pains have finally subsided. In the beginning, as you mentioned, I did feel sluggish but I’m finding that I have more and more energy as the days go by. (I don’t take the soft gels just the granules as you said six soft gels are the equivalent of one scoop of granules).
I’ve lost 22 pounds in a month and a half simply by cutting out all the junk food. Its too much too quickly for my taste but it is what it is. I do miss my steamed chicken breast, olive oil, and hard boiled eggs but i think for the next three months I’ll just eat fruits, veggies and small low-mercury fish. Hopefully I’ll be able to incorporate these foods back into my diet after I clean out.
I want to thank you for being a beacon of light in the health world. It’s so sad and frustrating and just unbelievable that heart surgery can be avoided simply by living sensibly (indulging once and a while) and taking three simply inexpensive supplements.
I’m still left wondering how the saturated fat in the lecithin comes into play in the body. If you could answer that, that would be wonderful; if not that’s ok too. Hopefully, I’ll be able to have a consultation with you sooner than later.
Blessing to you always,
Maria Nikopoulos
Hi Maria,
Thank you for the nice words. Glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery. And 22 pounds in six weeks is remarkable! Congratulations. Especially glad to hear that the chest pains subsided. You were experiencing angina, and the first sign of a blocked artery leading to the heart. Good job!!
A couple of suggestions: (1) add back the steamed chicken breast, extra virgin olive oil, and hard boiled egg to your diet now. You need the protein, and EVOO does wonders in the body. It will actually keep you “oiled” and facilitates the function of lecithin. You want to watch out that you don’t lose weight too quickly as you may lose important fat around the heart and other vital organs. You may also lose skin stability, causing sagging. Six weeks is long enough for deprivation. Time to add back more foods and slow down the rate of your weight loss. Now.
(2) Add short grain brown rice, and a healthy nut like almonds to your diet, now.
(3) Try fasting 2-3 days a month where you don’t eat any food, but you drink 8 ozs of juice every 8 hours on the hour, for 8-9 hours. This will aid in quickly expelling excess toxins in your system. You can use juices like carrot, tomato, or any vegetable but not fruit juices.
Good luck, and thanks for writing. Lynn
Hi Lynn,
I am literally at my wits end. I recently became very ill and was at the hands of the medical establishment for 4 months. I promised my self I would never be in that position again, It was a living nightmare. The whole ordeal made me reflect on my diet and lifestyle. I have always been slender and ate rather well a whole foods balanced diet with spurts of vegetarianism and veganism. But the past three years being unemployed and depressed led me to gain 50 pounds and have a diet of pizza and ice cream almost everyday. I recently began having chest pains. I went to the cardiologist (2 of them actually) and everything checks out ok. But Im still shaken thinking about all the fat Ive consumed. I’m so incredibly saddened and frustrated because i no longer know what to eat or cook for my husband. I dont want to go compete vegan. I want to enjoy fish and turkey breast. I am wondering if I take three scoops of the lecithin religiously can I eat like that? How does the saturated fat in lecithin come into play with all this. Please help.
Frustrated and HANGRY,
Maria
Hi Maria,
Thanks for writing, and I am so sorry for the misery you’ve been through. Of course you are discouraged and frightened. Dealing with the medical industry is usually a nightmare, especially if you are asking them to figure something out that they don’t readily recognize.
Your question gets a yes and no answer regarding the use of lecithin. Lecithin and beta carotene are the two most important supplements known to humankind. So sure it will help a great deal to take lecithin, but it won’t solve your problems and let you eat the way you want. Not yet. You have too many other deficiencies if you’ve been eating pizza and ice cream for three years. The biggest one however must be blockages, and that’s what lecithin does best–clean out blockages.
While all of your health problems, even the weight, can be solved with nutrition and supplementation, I can’t give you the kind of specific attention you need except through a private consultation. Please check the tab at the top of my home page for pricing and procedures. The good news is that everything that is wrong can be put right in just a few months. Except for the weight, which will take about a year but won’t be hard to do; it’s only 50 pounds. If you eat right they will drop off without you even noticing.
Luckily, I think you’ve caught it in time. You are already on top of things. You know exactly what you did wrong to get here. You know what you did right before. My question is why don’t you just go back to that lifestyle where you were healthy? Stop eating pizza and ice cream? Eat a balanced diet again?
I know plenty about financial depression. I’ve been there and am still there at times. I also know that the best weapon against depression is movement. I don’t care if it’s just cleaning your house, taking a walk, or calling on a friend. Do something. That movement dispels depression has been proven over and over in studies.
I wish you the best, Lynn
Lynn.
Hi Lynn,
This is my first time ever writing on any blog, but this is important to me. Thank you so much for trying to help people with health problems!! I have been to doctors, and have received almost no help at all from them, and a lot of frustration.
I am now using Lecithin daily as suggested by your blog, and I am feeling better. It’s helping my heart, my ED, and circulation. I want to start the Beta Carotene for inflammation soon, but I am concerned with taking high doses of Vitamin D-3. Every time I have taken it in the past, I felt really poor a few days later. I have read in other books that taking high doses of vitamin D builds up calcium deposits in the body. What would you say about that?
I was wondering if anyone else on your blog has had trouble taking high dose vitamin D? I also read in a book, that taking vitamin K-2 (MK-7) would put the calcium where it needs to be, if I took it with vitamin D.
I would like to here from you, what you think about this. I think the first time I took 1000 IU of vitamin D-3, 2 times per day, did not feel good. Months later, on my doctors advice, took 5000 IU. of vitamin D-3, 2 times a day, and felt so poorly I had to stop after a few days.
This time I will start on vitamin K-2(MK-7) before trying the vitamin D, but I would really like your feedback about why you think I am having a big problem taking vitamin D-3. Thank you for helping me already! I bought a copy of your book, and sent a copy to two family members also. Thank you so much! Mark
Hi Mark,
Thanks for buying copies of my book. Arnold Schwarzenegger thinks it is “unique and easy to use.” Hope you and your family members agree.
In your comment sometime you call it vitamin D and other times D3. I recommend D3 because it more closely replicates the natural vitamin D we get from the sun.
I recommend D3 be taken along with Beta Carotene because BC needs D3 in order to be properly assimilated and utilized by the body. I’m wondering if taking small doses of BC would help balance the D3 so as not to make you feel poorly.
If you have other sources of vitamin D3, like milk and dairy, you may be able to take less D3 and still get the benefits necessary to comfortably take BC.
I would like to hear more specifics as to exactly what you experience when you take vitamin D. That might help me to answer this question because I have never heard this before.
Thanks for writing, Lynn.
That is very fascinating. You’re an overly professional blogger.
I’ve joined your feed and look ahead in the hunt for more of your excellent posst. Additionally, I have shared your website in my social networks.
Thank you. I appreciate you sharing my blog with others. I’ve got some interesting posts planned for 2015.
Stay tuned, Lynn
Hi Lynn, I have been taking 15 ml lecithin granules 4x a day for my congestive heart failure, together with the BC, Q10, D3, and my heart and diabetes meds. In my blood test yesterday, my LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol, as you know) was very high at 227.92 mg/dl versus a normal range of 40-100. Was this the lecithin itself, or is this the plaque that stuck to the walls of my blood vessels and dislodged by the lecithin, and now floating around in the blood? The day before the test, I had a one-hour treatment of “lipo cavitation” to remove body fats and make me healthier. But I understand that the substances released by lipo cavitation are triglycerides, and not LDL. My triglycerides and other lipids are normal. I feel relatively good for a guy with congestive heart failure, walking around without a cane or any assistance. Blood pressure normal with the above regimen and my meds. But when my cardiologist sees this very high LDL reading, he will surely tell me to stop the lecithin. Please help me. Thank you very much.
Hi Noel,
You do sound pretty healthy for someone with congestive heart failure; a condition where the heart is in such a weakened state that it can no longer pump enough blood to satisfy the body’s needs. One thing jumps out at me from your comment: That you had a test the day before your LDL was measured that released into your system excess triglycerides. I’m not certain that that didn’t have something to do with your high LDL reading. Have you read Blog 32: High Cholesterol? It explains how and why lecithin works on LDL. Triglycerides and cholesterol are both types of fat that accumulate in your body and have to be processed and removed for good health. I think it’s possible that the triglyceride dump showed up as LDL.
I know for certain that lecithin will clean all sorts of organic debris from the body, like calcium deposits, fats, cholesterol, triglycerides and more. I am sure that lecithin is not the problem. But it cleans out debris like LDL by releasing it into the blood stream so that it can be shunted to the liver for processing and or removal. And that’s how cholesterol is tested, by testing the amount in the blood. It stands to reason then that you would have a higher LDL reading while your body is in the process of cleaning out cholesterol or triglycerides via your bloodstream. When you’re taking lecithin, there is going to be more LDL available to show up on a test, because the bloodstream is how the body gets rid of it.
No matter what, you can’t stop taking lecithin. Please. Did you read the comment in Blog 32 where a man was treating for ED but discovered that taking lecithin had lowered his overall cholesterol, until he was worried about not having enough? Your doctor doesn’t know enough about supplements and nutrition to make a sound decision here.
You should also add B12 to your supplement regimen to get more oxygen distributed throughout your body. Don’t take time released B12; you need the jolt of the whole dose. Take 2000 mcg twice daily, morning and evening. I use Nature’s Life 1000 mcg tablets, with Folic Acid.

Hi Lynn.
Just came across your site a few days ago and whoa was I blown away to find someone who thinks like I do about the body and using supplements. I have had several heart workups that show that my heart is in great shape. My concern is my arteries. While I eat healthy meals, I eat way too much junk food. I am overweight, sluggish, and tired all the time. I have purchased the supplements that you recommend but would like to take a different form of lecithin as I do not like what soy does to the body. Everything that I have read and watched says that soy makes health issues worse and can cause cancer. I am also using bio identical hormones and was told to not use soy, period. Do you have a recommendation for an alternative to soy lecithin that would provide the same or similar results? Also, I would be interested in your recommendations for a daily vitamin/mineral/trace mineral supplementation. I did not see a blog listed under the index of posts which the title reflected that content. That would be a great read. There are so many recommendations out there and I do realize that the RDA is too low but am unsure of which way to go.
Thank you for the research and work that you do. It is quite refreshing to read your blogs.
Terri
Hi Terri,
So happy to hear that you like the blogs and that they are helping you. Great news. If you can’t take soya lecithin because of your hormone replacement you can try sunflower Lecithin. Just make sure that any product you try has a minimum of 61% phosphatides or higher. I hear from people that sunflower Lecithin conforms to these specifications and works for them.
But you are being misled by people telling you that any kind of Lecithin can harm you, let alone cause cancer. Know that no Lecithin product will cause cancer. Cancer comes from an excess of free radicals and a deficiency of antioxidants. Lecithin cannot give you cancer no matter what form you try. It is only food. I have had several men taking Lecithin for ED tell me that soya Lecithin does not in anywhere interfere with testosterone production, quite the opposite. Personally, I take 6, 1200 mg soft gels twice daily. There are a lot of “blockage” disorders that are prevented by Lecithin, including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, blood clot stroke, and heart attack. I use DHEA to make sure my hormones don’t stop, and the Lecithin doesn’t interfere with that intake at all.
I would add B12, 2000 mcg twice daily…don’t use a time released product…for the sluggishness, and Sea Kelp each night if your fatigue comes from not enough sleep. Try reading Blog 30: The Seven Categories of Illness to see the relationship between all blockage disorders. Nothing can replace Lecithin because of its emulsifying properties. You will avoid so many problems by making Lecithin a permanent part of your diet.
It sounds like you’re looking for a good multi vitamin? I can’t recommend one over any other. But what you need to do is buy the specific vitamins needed to directly address your specific concerns. I take a multi, just to make sure I’m getting the trace elements I need. All of the RDA recommendations are too low, ridiculously so. I even heard a physician on TV telling people not to take large doses of supplements because they cause cancer and heart attacks. This is criminal stupidity, and such statements will harm people who don’t know any better. I’m glad to know that you believe in supplementation and rely on them to keep you healthy.
Lastly, if your arteries, joints, etc. are clogged it will exhaust you. Think of all the garbage you carry around as toxins. Lecithin is a life saver. Also, Terri, check your fridge and cabinets…read the boxes. Lecithin is used in most of our foods and has been for over 100 years. Why all of a sudden do you suppose people come up with the idea that it’s dangerous?
I guess by now it’s no secret how I feel about the medical industry. I think they do more harm then good, that they are not taught in med school to think independently, or even think at all. They wait for their studies and follow directions really well, until another study sends them off in another direction…all without thinking or questioning. It breaks my heart that they are so dumb. Always question what your doctor tells you, because more than likely it’s wrong.

Lynn,
I am so happy I came across your website. This is an amazing source of much needed information. I have started taking bee pollen already and, hopefully, I will be OK next spring when the allergy season starts.
P.S. I forwarded links to your blog to all my friends. Some of them have high blood pressure, some have allergies. I want them all to know your website address by heart.
Victor L.
Thank you so much Victor, for your support. It means a lot to me, and thanks for passing my link out to your friends. Witih my therapies, there is no reason for anyone to be ill anymore.
Lynn
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for all your helpful advice. Taking Lecithin and beta Carotine, etc . as you recommend, how long will it take for one’s arteries to completely clear? Also, would one feel fatigue from the effects of clearing the arteries?
Thanks,
Ken
Hi Ken,
It will take about a month if you adhere strictly to the recommendations. But you will receive the beneficial effects before the arteries are completely clear. And yes you may see some side effects as your body clears out the gunk: you may get boils, bumps, mild acne, or rashes, even a headache, because your body is releasing the organic debris out of your arteries and dumping it into the bloodstream for removal. You may feel more fatigue. You may also notice you’re coughing up and blowing out of your nose a lot of mucus. This is your body’s effort to get rid of the matter that has been clogging up your arteries. But you can’t stop taking the lecithin or beta carotene, even when you feel better. Beta carotene is going to keep your body free of inflammation and lecithin will keep the arterial system clear. But everyday you eat foods that can cause clogging, which is why you should plan on keeping lecithin permanently in your diet. You should take these supplements everyday the same way that you expect to have to eat everyday. FYI: For people with really high blood pressure, any day that they take lecithin, on that day their blood pressure drops, even if it is the first day they take it. But if they don’t take it the next day, the blood pressure gets high again. Lecithin is really remarkable at cleaning out your body.

Hello Lynn,
I just read your heart disease article. I want to make sure that there isn’t a typo when you say to take ten or more softgels of beta carotene, each softgel containing 25,000IU, twice a day. Thus, you are recommending 250,000 IU (or more) for breakfast and 250,000 IU (or more) for dinner? Is this correct?
Thank you.
Hi Richard,
No that is not a typo. In fact, 10 softgels twice daily is about the weakest dose of Beta Carotene that I recommend. People with cancer, or other out of control inflammatory disorders, who are under my care, are taking 50 sotgels 3-5 times daily. Depending on how bad the inflammation is, you need a lot of BC to control and prevent it in the future. I take 50 softgels twice daily just as a maintenance dose, to make sure I never have to face cancer. Beta Carotene will not hurt you. If you ever take too much, and this is hard, the only side effect is a mild headache or allergy type hive rash that disappears as soon as you cut back.
While your biggest concern with heart disease is the blockages that lead to the slowdown of blood, those same blockages cause inflammation in your arterial system. That is what the BC is designed to stop.
